Gathered from an old Southwestern cemetery, this fossilized petrified wood is an especially fitting cemetery stone, the ancient ancestor of trees from a long-vanished green world, now resting in the quiet stillness of a dusty old graveyard.

This striking piece of petrified wood carries the long memory of the earth in its grain. Measuring about 7 inches long and weighing 1.6 pounds, it has the shape and presence of a weathered ancient limb turned to stone over ages beyond counting. One side shows warm golden-yellow tones, while the other holds a deeper bark-brown surface with tiny worn crystals tucked into its texture like old hidden treasure.

Petrified wood begins as wood and becomes stone through a slow mineral process that preserves its original structure. That transformation gives each piece a character all its own, and this one has plenty of it. The contrast between the honeyed side and the darker, bark-like side makes it especially appealing as a display specimen for a shelf, altar, desk, or cabinet of curiosities.

In folk traditions, wood and stone each carry their own symbolism, and petrified wood seems to stand at the crossroads between them. It suggests endurance, rootedness, age, and the quiet strength that comes from surviving long seasons of change. Whether chosen for its natural beauty, its old-earth feel, or its steady grounding presence, this is a handsome one-of-a-kind piece.

You will receive the exact specimen shown.
